Mai-Juni 2019 Seminarreihe "Queer Lives and Europeanisation in Southeast Europe"

LGBTIQ individuals are gaining visibility in most Southeast European countries. This comes despite a prevalence of homo- and transphobia on the societal level and of ambivalence in the political field.

This seminar series of Graz University seeks to provide an introduction to the changing context of queer lives in the Balkans and Turkey, raising a wide range of questions from the challenge of legal recognition and the power and limitations of civil rights activism, to the multi-faceted impact of Europeanisation and the consequences of the return of religion in the everyday life.
