The Department of Social, Political and Territorial Sciences of the University of Aveiro (UAVR) opened the school year with a speech by the Secretary of State for Citizenship and Equality

The Department of Social, Political and Territory Sciences (DCSPT) held on October 12 an official opening session of the academic year 2020/2021. The event had, as invited speaker, the Secretary of State for Citizenship and Equality, Dr. Rosa Monteiro. The Rector of the University of Aveiro, Professor Paulo Jorge Ferreira, the Director of DCSPT, Dr. Carlos Rodrigues and the Directors of masters and doctoral programs of DCSPT also gave a speech on the post-graduation programs of the DCSPT.

This welcome session to students had as main topic "gender equality in higher education", especially the speach of Dr. Rosa Monteiro. The Secretary of State reflected on the gender environment in higher education, highlighting the importance of projects such as CHANGE for the achievement of full equality in higher education institutions. She stated that "science and knowledge are not neutral" and called institutions to develop active actions to promote gender equality and to fight gender stereotypes. About 60 people participated in this session, both in person and at a distance. The video of the event is available online.
