The German Evaluation Society (DeGEval) organised a conference between September 16-17, 2021 to discuss the role of evaluation research in times of societal transformation. Our coordinator Anita Thaler was invited by the board of DeGEval to discuss on September 16th this topic with Sandy Taut (Bayerisches Landesamt für Schule), Udo Kelle (Universität der Bundeswehr, Hamburg) and Ruppert Pichler (Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology, Vienna). Anita Thaler pointed out the specific role of monitoring and evaluation in projects focussing on structural change to increase gender equality in science and research.
For the evaluation of mandatory gender equality plans in the European Commission's Horizon Europe research funding programme Thaler expects a respective evaluation strategy, which needs more evaluators with explicit gender expertise.
On September 17th the CHANGErs Jennifer Dahmen-Adkins, Anita Thaler and Sandra Karner presented in a joined session with sister project TARGET and LeTGEPs the monitoring and evaluation approach of CHANGE, highlighting the importance of trustful relationships and co-producing knowledge within the consortium.
